A proposal for the redevelopment of the Regent on the seafront is being put out to public consultation in advance of a planning application.

In the latest proposals since the sale of the building in 2011, they propose to rebuild the Art Deco frontage and build:

  • A 49 seat cinema
  • A cafe
  • 9 townhouses and three apartments

They held two online consultation events, recordings of those and more information can be found in the letter below and at www.regentdeal.co.uk.

There has not yet been a formal planning application, the Deal Society will await that in order to give a considered response. The scheme would rely on Dover District Council selling the South Street car park to the developers to build on, resulting in the loss to the community of public amenity, that being the car parking spaces, public toilets and bus waiting room. The Deal Society is asking Dover District and Deal Town councils to give their councilors the chance to debate that loss.

The history of the building, the various proposals to redevelop it and the position of The Deal Society is at www.thedealsociety.org.uk/the-regent.
