Smuggling in Kent
The Kent coast’s proximity to France made it ideal territory for smugglers. Deal especially was a notorious smuggling town in the 18th and 19th centuries. Local historian Peter Ewart will describe how and why the trade arose, and also describe the efforts made by the authorities to suppress it.
The talk is free and takes place on October 7th at 7.30 pm in Deal Town Hall.
