During the winter, The Deal Society organise a series of talks on a variety of subjects which may be of interest to the people of Deal and Walmer.
They are free and open to all, each starts at 7.30 pm in Deal Town Hall. The talks for 2018 are:
Tuesday 6 February
David White will celebrate 50 years since the first of our conservation areas, Middle Street, was designated. We will look at how the idea of conservation areas came about and why they are relevant today, we will also learn what it means to live in a conservation area.
Thursday 1 March
I Spy Man
“Big Chief I Spy” Arnold Cawthrow lived in Deal and wrote iconic books devoured in our childhood. John Taghorn was his assistant over many years and will give us an insight into what went into these, now very valuable, collectors’ books

Pie and Mash
In addition to writing about hop picking in Kent, Melanie McGrath is a chronicler of London’s East End and will talk about her latest book “Pie and Mash in the Romans Road”, a social history of Bow and Bethnal Green.
