Tour of orchards on foot, restaurant, picnic area, shops

Owned and funded by Defra, Brogdale is an internationally recognised genetic resource, with fruit trees ranging from apples and pears to plums and cherries, to cobnuts, strawberries and quinces while they are in season. After coffee upon arrival, we shall have a guided walk (lasting about one hour) around the most interesting and attractive parts of the orchards. Then there will be plenty to eat and do in the Courtyard Café, Plant Centre and Market Place shops. If the weather is promising, bring a picnic.

Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum (Lewes)

Birds, cars, house and garden, restaurant, picnic area

Bentley has something for everyone! A spectacular wildfowl reserve with 125 species of ducks, geese and swans (out of the 147 worldwide), plus flamingos and cranes. A museum housing a unique collection of veteran, Edwardian, vintage and modern classic cars. Bentley House, a 1940s revamp of a 700 year old semi-derelict manor with wonderful antiques and surrounded by unusual gardens. We shall have coffee upon arrival, and then enjoy lunch in the restaurant or bring a picnic (a bit risky in September!).

The Grand (Folkestone)

Hotel tour, “cream tea”, stroll along The Leas

We shall hear about Edwardian scandals during a guided tour of the building which lasts two hours. This will be followed by a “cream tea” (tea and scone with cream and jam).
