As part of the Dover Western Docks Revival, the Port of Dover have applied to dredge 2.5 million cubic metres of aggregate from the South Goodwin Sands (which they say is 0.22% of the volume of the sands).
The Deal Society have concerns about the potential for this to affect the shingle on our beach. We are trying to get assurance from Dover District Council (who have responsibility for maintenance of the beach) that there will be no detrimental effect. We are advising the ‘Goodwin Sands SOS’ campaign on Facebook at www.facebook.com/groups/SaveOurSands.
Documents from the Port of Dover related to the application can be found on their website at www.doverport.co.uk/about/port-development.
