Dover District Council had a desk in Deal library for members of the public to enquire about their services, which is being closed. The Citizens Advice Bureau in Deal has stepped forward and will now offer help and advice on council services at their office at 26 Victoria Road on Monday to Wednesday from 9.30am to 3pm.

In July the Cabinet proposed to close the desk. The Deal Society said that we regard the closure as premature:

Whilst we appreciate that cost savings will be required for the foreseeable future and that council services have to adapt to changes in society and technology, we believe that it is premature to discontinue face-to-face contact with the public and that the proposal prejudices attempts by the council to engage with the community.

Councillors and other community groups expressed concerns and a public meeting of a scrutiny committee was held at the Astor Community Theatre.
