Following the closure of the garage formerly operated by Adamson’s, two planning applications were submitted for the site.
A planning application was submitted to build 17 one and two bedroom apartments and maisonettes on the site of the Adamson’s garage next to Sainsbury’s on West Street. The application was refused and an appeal against the refusal was also refused.
Another application was submitted to build one maisonette and two flats on the area which was used as a car park for the garage on the other side of the road. This application has not been determined and is being revised.
The Society, in liaison with local residents, has been in dialogue with the developers to improve the plans for this site. A scheme has now been proposed that is a huge improvement on the plans that were refused by the DDC planning committee and the National Planning Inspectorate. It is anticipated that the revised plans will be submitted to DDC soon.
