Major events in Deal during 2012
This year we have two major events which Deal Town Council wish to celebrate - The Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Torch Relay. The Council is holding an open meeting on Wednesday 8th February at 10.00am in the Town Hall Chamber to discuss those events.
Deal Town Council is currently considering ideas for celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June and the Olympic torch procession in July. In order to make sure that both are successful events for our communities, you are invited to attend a meeting on Wednesday 8th February 2012 at 10.00am in the Town Hall Chamber. This will be an opportunity to brainstorm ideas and plans, and you are very welcome to bring along anyone else who might like to be involved.
Ideas so far (with a very limited budget) include:
Diamond Jubilee
- Vintage Bus Day in Deal - Monday June 4th
- Possible street party in the High Street on the same day - officers checking the viability of this idea
Olympic Torch procession 19th July 2012
Breakfast event on the pier before the torch sets off. The original idea was to invite school children as the guests but they are all invited with their schools to another breakfast event in the town.
Some other ideas suggested but not decided upon include:
- Planting of oak trees
- Tea party for anyone celebrating a Diamond Wedding anniversary this year
- Themed costume event - could link with the Vintage Bus Day and street party
- Coloured bunting and planting schemes i.e. red, white and blue.
- Contribution towards replanting the sensory garden outside St George's Church.
This list is not exhaustive and no plans are finalised yet. Therefore the views of everyone will be very welcome.
If you would like to attend please let me know in advance if at all possible. However you are very welcome to just turn up on the day.
